CtK’s Room In The Inn Team is again partnering with the Urban Ministry Center to open our facilities to provide shelter and food for up to 12 homeless people during the winter months. On the 1st & 3rd Saturdays, December 1 – March 16, we offer a warm, safe place to sleep, serve three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch) and then return guests the following morning to uptown Charlotte. The basic goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. A greater goal is to provide a more personal relationship to homeless people, at least for a night, and to foster a deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of the issue.
Participants come to the Urban Ministry Center uptown around 4:00 p.m. for a carefully formatted intake and registration process. Each person is entered into their database to help determine who’s using the program and how often. Members of our team transport the people from the Center to CtK on Saturday afternoon and return them from CtK to the Center early on Sunday mornings.
Are you looking for a way to serve? This is a great short-term outreach opportunity. We need volunteer drivers, volunteers to do laundry (bedding & towels) during the week, volunteers to serve our guests on Saturday evenings. We also have need of donations of blankets, sheets, pillows and toiletries. Email email@example.com and ask to be connected to the RITI team.
