Title: Mount Tabor – A View of Glory
Mountains are a destination place for people all over the world. Mountains are places to engage in the awe, the pristine, the beautiful. They are places to rejuvenate our souls, challenge our resolves and re-awaken the possible.
Mountains are the places God met with His people and elevated their view to see more clearly His love, His direction and His presence. This summer let’s meet God on the mountain. He is waiting! Prepare your soul!
Text: Matthew 17:1-13, Mark 2-13, Luke 9:28-36
What is revealed about God on this mountain?
- Jesus is the fulfillment of the law and prophets.
- We need to listen to Jesus.
- We can’t stay on the mountain forever.

Title: Mount Tabor – A View of Glory
- Read Matthew 17:1-13. Why do you think Jesus chose to reveal His glory in this way—and to these three disciples? How would this moment have encouraged the disciples as they moved toward the cross with Jesus? When have you experienced a “glimpse of glory”—a time God reminded you of His power and presence?
- What does the presence of Moses and Elijah tell us about who Jesus is and His place in redemptive history? How does understanding Jesus as the fulfillment of the Law and Prophets impact the way we read Scripture?
- Why do you think Peter wanted to build shelters and stay on the mountain? Are there moments in your spiritual life where you’ve tried to “freeze” a spiritual high instead of moving forward in obedience? What can we learn from Peter’s well-meaning but misdirected response?
- What is the significance of God saying, “Listen to Him”? How is that different from just admiring or studying Jesus? In what areas of your life do you need to listen more closely to Jesus’ voice right now?
- Why were the disciples so afraid, and what does Jesus’ response tell us about His character? How do you respond when you are overwhelmed by God’s holiness or presence? Where in your life right now do you need to hear Jesus say, “Do not be afraid”?
- Why didn’t Jesus allow the disciples to stay on the mountain? What does this teach us about the Christian life? What does it look like to be faithful in the valley—after the mountaintop moments have passed? How can we carry the truth of who Jesus is into the everyday challenges and trials we face?
- What part of this story most resonates with you right now—and why? What would change in your life this week if you really lived like Jesus is who He revealed Himself to be on the mountain? What’s one area where God is calling you off the mountain—into the valley—but you’ve been hesitant to follow?
