Title: Honoring the Voiceless
How would you define honor? Who do we tend to honor in our society? What keeps us from honoring others in our society? What barriers are there in our culture or in your life that keeps you from honoring the
voiceless?
Discuss with each other how you see honor and dishonor being lived out in our families, communities, and nation today? What makes someone want to honor someone else? What makes someone want to dishonor? What does honor look like? What does dishonor look like?
Read Luke 8:43-48. The woman we read about in this passage was an outsider to the rest of society around her. She was voiceless. How does Jesus honor her? How does he lift her up and give her a voice? Describe what you observe about the character of Jesus in this passage. Do you exemplify these same characteristics in your own life that you just identified in Jesus’s life? If not, what is keeping you from living as Jesus did? Take time to pray about the barriers that may be standing in the way of fully honoring the voiceless like Jesus did.
Read Romans chapter 12, verses 10 & 17. Paul speaks of outdoing one another in showing honor. What would that look like practically for you? How can you show honor to someone that others in society look down on? How can you honor the voiceless? What are practical ways you can honor widows, orphans, the aged, the poor, the disabled, or the unborn children?
Gather with your family/group and pray for each other. Pray for your growth in honoring the voiceless because of the honor we see Jesus model throughout scripture.
