Title: Honoring Those in Authority
Share with each other where your frustrations are in honoring those in authority. This may be in any spectrum
of life – government, work, etc. What makes it frustrating? Read Romans 10:12-17. How can you give
thought to how to honor in these difficult situations?
Read Romans 13:1-7. What is Paul asking us to do in this passage? Why? How does Paul see the authority of
God and the authority of government? What is the difference between submitting under an authority and
being obedient? How can government be representative of a God of order? What tends to happen to
societies without order? Why is that the case? Read Judges 17:6. How does this passage cause us to
dishonor? What happens when this is the norm of people and society? What does God need to do in these
cases? Who are Christians ultimately responsible to?
Read Hebrews 13:17. How can you honor and support church leadership to increase their joy of serving and
leading the body of Christ and to be more effective in their work? How will you put this into practice?
Read 1 Peter 2:12-17. What is Peter encouraging us to do in this passage? What difference would this make
toward living honorable in a dishonorable world? How does doing good, silence ignorant people? How does
continuing to honor strengthen the witness of the Christian when others are dishonoring? What kind of
conduct puts us in the best position to share Jesus with others? What kind of conduct diminishes our ability
to introduce Jesus to others? What would you change in your own conduct to increase the validity of your
witness for Jesus?
Read 1 Peter 2:9-10. How does this passage describe who you are as a Christian? In times when you are
dishonored, how does this passage remind you of your value?
Read 1 Peter 2:21-23. What does this passage say about Christian character and conduct? What are some of
the sacrifices Christians need to make to show honor in a dishonorable world?
What is God saying to you in this study? Share with the group.
Gather with your family or group and pray for each other to grow in Christian character and honor.
