Title: Light House
∙ Jesus as the Light
John 1:4-5 NLT The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 8:12 ESV Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
∙ Jesus as the Light House
Psalm 36:9 ESV For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.
Psalm 119:105 ESV Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
∙ Why do people run from the light?
John 1:6-11 NLT God sent a man, John the Baptist, 7 to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. 8 John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. 9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. 11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.
John 3:19-21
∙ There is hope
Luke 1:76-79

Title: Light House
- Why is it so hard to hear the truth? When have you tried to reason with someone about the truth, but it was rejected? Why?
- Jesus came as the “Light of the World”. What does that mean for you? Read John 1:1-13. What does this passage say about Jesus as the light? What does it mean to be the light for everyone? Why do you think people reject the light and truth of Jesus? How can you be like John the Baptist and help people see the value of Jesus as the true light?
- Read John 8:12-14. What does Jesus mean in saying that we will not walk in darkness? What might this have to do with death and eternity or living life in truth now? How does this statement compare to similar declarations in the Old Testament, like Isaiah 9:2 or Psalm 119:105?
- How is the light of Jesus like a light house? Read Psalms 36:9 and 119:105. What is the writer saying this means for his life?
- Read John 12:35-36. Look at the context of this passage. Why would Jesus say this to them? What would it mean for us today to walk in the light while there is still time? In what ways could we lose the opportunity?
- How does the light of Jesus shine in a believer’s life today? Consider practical ways this light can be lived out in daily life?
- How does the light of Jesus guide and direct believers in making decisions and living righteous lives?
- How does the healing of the blind man (John 9:1-12) serve as a symbolic demonstration of Jesus as the Light? What deeper truths does this healing convey about spiritual blindness and sight?
- What is the connection between Jesus as the “light of the world” and the concept of being a “city on a hill” as mentioned in Matthew 5:14-16?
- Gather in smaller groups with your study group or family and pray for the light of Jesus in each of you.
