Message Notes for February 23, 2025 

Series: It’s About Love 

Title: Love and Purpose 

To love the Church is to love Jesus and to love Jesus is to love His Church. The  purpose of the Church is to live and share the love of Jesus in the world. That  purpose is a response of love and thanksgiving for what Jesus did on the cross and it  is lived out both individually and together. 

Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. 

1 Peter 2:4-5 You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s  temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.  ⁵And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s  more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer  spiritual sacrifices that please God. 

1 Timothy 3:14-15 I am writing these things to you now, even though I hope to be  with you soon, ¹⁵ so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct  themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the  pillar and foundation of the truth. 

Love forms the purpose of the church: 

• To be built up. 

• To build bridges to the lost to know the love of God. 

• To offer our best for God’s Kingdom purposes on earth. 

• To be a pillar of truth in a world of shifting values. 

Love for Jesus stirs purpose and creates action!

Praise: 

– Love praises God for who God is! For whom you are in Christ! For His Holy Spirit in  you! For God’s armor and protection! 

Giving: 

– Love takes planning! Love makes sacrifice! Love prioritizes (tithe)! Love meets need  along the way (offering)! 

Service: 

– Love serves God all your days! Love motivates your serving! Love takes action to  mature your gifts to serve God and others! Love glorifies God in the serving.

Prayer: (ACTS) 

– Love adores! Love confesses! Love gives thanks! Love intercedes on behalf of  others (supplication).

• How has participation in the Church helped you love Jesus and grow in your faith and following of Him? Be specific as you share with your family or group.
• How can you help those who do not participate in church to see the value of church to know Christ and grow in Him? Be specific and make a list of those you would like to have conversation with.
• How do the following passages describe the purpose of the Church? Colossians 3:16, 1 Peter 2:9-10, Ephesians 2:19-22, Acts 2:42, James 5:14, 1 Timothy 3:15, Hebrews 10:24, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20, Psalm 138:8, Matthew 18:15-17, Ephesians 4:11-16, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 1:13-14.
• Discuss together how you can love Jesus and His Church through: Praise, Giving, Service, Prayer!
• Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other to grow in your love for Jesus and His Church with renewed purpose and mission.
