Message Notes for February 16, 2020
Series: 20/20 Mission Clarity
Title: Giving Clarity
Mission Clarity: Seeing clearly how your life is lived in this world for God’s purposes.
John 1:50b-51 You will see greater things than these. And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
How does giving open heaven’s doors?
Reasons to give:
- Obedience
- Honor
- Love
- Anticipation
- Other?
Luke 21:1-4 Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, 2 and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. 3 And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
What Jesus saw in this woman’s generosity.
- He saw faithfulness.
- He saw trust.
- He saw love.
- He saw Himself.
2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Title: Giving Clarity
- What stirs your heart to give? Why?
- When have you had the most fun being generous? If you could have the most fun changing a life, a ministry or a circumstance with your resource, what would it be?
- What fears or family patterns have kept you from being generous? What promises in the Bible could help change these fears?
- Is there a time where your giving forced you to trust God for provision to keep going? What did you learn about God? Yourself?
- Read John 1:50-51. How does giving open heaven’s doors on earth?
- Read Luke 21:1-4. What is going on in this passage? Why is this woman commended over others who were giving? What does Jesus want us to know? How does Jesus want us to live in relationship with Him?
- Read Malachi 3;10-12. What is God asking us to do? What are the promises in this passage? What are ways that faithfulness and generosity move God to act in our own lives?
- Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other as you seek to follow Jesus and serve Him faithfully.
