Title: An Effective Church

• When was the first time you remember praying to God as an adult? Child? What was that like? Do you remember anyone teaching you how to pray? Why do you pray? Why do you think God wants us to pray?

• Read 1 Timothy 2:1-7. What is Paul encouraging Timothy to do and to teach? Why does he urge Timothy in prayer? Who should be prayed for? Why? What does this mean for you with the leaders of our country? Why does prayer please God? What does prayer do to our own hearts?

• Read 1 Timothy 3: 1-13. Why is Paul lifting up the aspiration to become a Christian leader? What does that say about a person’s desire to grow into a deeper relationship with Jesus? Read through each of the qualifications. How do each of these in your life represent Jesus, build up the church and bless the community? Now read the things Paul encourages us not to do. How do they bring harm to yourself and others?

• How can you grow in each of these qualities? What support would you need? How does staying near Jesus in learning and faith help us? 

• Read 1 Timothy 3:14-15. What do you think Paul means in this passage about the church? How would you describe the value of the church for the world?

• In reading this encouragement from Paul to Timothy, what would you want to aspire to in your Christian walk? Gather and pray with each other.
