Title: God Defies Logic
Life today can challenge our _________
You were created in a way to __________________ out of this world
Understanding God’s ability in history to defy human logic, prepares our minds and hearts for the principles of God to bless our lives, today.
1 Corinthians 10:11 – These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age. (NLT)
1 Corinthians 1:20, 27-29 – So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish… Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God. (NLT)
If God can defy human logic in these ways – how much more will his teaching show us a path to life abundant.
SO, when life does not seem to make sense…
1. … SETTLE into what you already know that you know about God.
(Resting in God is Faith)
2. … SEEK out reliable sources
(Revelation builds faith – Scripture, God’s Revelation, through God’s People)
3. … SLOW down – God’s revelation of himself and his truth can take time
(Respite, wait, trust…)

Title: God Defies Logic
When was a moment in your life, that life did not make sense to you? What did you feel, think, do? Share with each other some of this story.
What do you usually use to make sense of life, when things get crazy? How have examples been helpful for you to make sense of these times?
READ 1 Corinthians 1:20, 27-29 – Paul is comparing the wisdom of this world, and the foolishness of God. God chooses the things the world considers foolishness to confound the wise of this world. What does that tell you about who can help you make sense of life?
Now, READ 1 Corinthians 10:11 – Paul speaks of examples from the Old Testament people of God, Israel, and how they serve as examples for us. What is a story from the Old Testament that has served as an example for you? Share the story briefly, and tell how it has served as an example for your life.
READ Hebrews 11:1,6 – How is faith described in these verses? How is faith like “resting totally in God?”
READ Romans 10:17 – How does the Scripture build your faith? When is the best time to strengthen your faith, when you are in the crisis, or when you are in ‘smooth-sailing’? Why did you choose that one? What is one way you can use Scripture this week to strengthen your faith, in the face of life not making sense?
When life does not make sense, do you tend to speed up, or slow down? Why would slowing down help you to make sense of life?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other’s walk through life, and with God, this week. Pray for ways to see God defying our human logic, that might increase our faith.
