Title: Rest Comes Under Carrying a Yoke
Living in the way of Jesus leads to greater joy, less stress and increased fulfillment.
Jeremiah 6:16-17 This is what the Lord says: Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that’s not the road we want!’ 17 I posted watchmen over you who said, ‘Listen for the sound of the alarm.’
But you replied, ‘No! We won’t pay attention!’
What makes you not follow the Godly path?
What makes carrying Jesus’ yoke light?
Matthew 11: 25-30 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
- Jesus carried the burden of the law for us.
2 Corinthians 5:21
- Jesus gives us commands out of love and relationship vs. laws to achieve love and relationship.
John 14:21
- Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit to help us walk in the way of Jesus.
John 16:13-15, John 14:26

Title: Rest Comes Under Carrying a Yoke
- How would you describe your discovery and walk with Jesus? Share with each other. What has been difficult? Why? What has been easy? Why?
- Why do you think people do not come to church or have a relationship with Jesus? Share your thoughts with your group. Read Jeremiah 6:16-17. What is the promise in this passage? Why does the prophet say what he does? Is this true today? How so? What is the crossroad for someone you know who does not come to church? What has made them go the other way? What can you do about it?
- Read Matthew 11:25-30. How can someone know Jesus? How has religion become a burden for some people? What is the invitation and promise of Jesus in this passage? How does love change what feels burdensome in a relationship?
- Read John 14:21. What is the promise in this passage? What is the challenge? How does love change everything? What do love and rules feel like in your family, marriage, friendships? How can you help someone understand Jesus in this way? What would you say?
- What keeps people from opening up with their struggles in church? How could the church become more of a safe place for people struggling to get help? What do they need to know? How can you be that church?
- Gather with each other and pray for each other’s walk with Jesus.
