Title: Giving Our Leftovers

Today’s Focus: Will you only give God your leftovers?

Mark 12: 41-44  41 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

• What has inspired you to live generously?

Romans 8:32  32He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 

• Take some time this week to sit down you/your household and go over your budget and time, where do you want to make the most impact for the kingdom this year in three ways:

1. Your time.
2.  Your possessions.
3. Your talents.

Title: Giving Our Leftovers

1. What does generosity mean? What areas of your life are you generous in? Why? What areas do you need to grow in generosity? Why?

2. How are you generous to God, not just with your finances? Why do you give to God the way you do? What started you on the path to being how generous you are with God? What stops you from being more generous to God? What are your priorities with:

• Time you spend
• Talent you have
• Treasure that you have

3. Read Mark 12:41-22 What was the difference between the man and the woman in the story, look beyond just the amount of money each gave. Why do you think the man gave proportionally a smaller amount then the woman? Why did the woman give all that she had? Where is God moving in this passage? How did the woman participate in the Kingdom of God?

4. Read Luke 7:36-47 Why wasn’t the Pharisee, the owner of the house, welcoming to Jesus or the woman? Why did the woman pour all the ointment on Jesus’ feet? When she rubbed it off with her hair, what do you think this meant? What does submission to Jesus mean? How are you welcoming to Jesus?

5.  We often give to a specific cause at church: money for missions, shoes for Guatemala, donations to help the building or the youth. What does it mean to be generous consistently? Read Romans 8:32 What has Jesus given to us all? What should our response be back to this? Where have you withheld?

6. The women who gave all her money and the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet, it says we are participating in the coming Kingdom of God. As you pray individually and with others in your household (including your children), how do you want to make the biggest impact this year with your time, your treasure (finances), and your talents? How can you responded with gratitude to the grace that you have been given?
