Series: A Seat at the Table
Title: My Seat at the Table
BL: Just because our enemies surround us does not mean they have a seat at the table.
Psalm 23 esv. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Personal Notes:
What keeps you from sitting at the table with Jesus?
What to do when facing your enemies:
· Sit back at the table and visit with Jesus.
· Take authority against the enemy.
· Do not negotiate with the enemy.
Joshua 1:1-9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
· Reject the lies of the enemy.
2 Corinthians 10:5-6 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Family/Group Study Notes for the week of October 6, 2024
Series: A Seat at the Table
Title: My Seat at the Table
* What does it mean to sit at the table with Jesus? What would that look like for you and your family/friends? How would more time at the table with Jesus impact your life, decisions and relationships?
* Read Psalm 23. What are the promises in this passage? We as human beings have lots of wants. How can we say that if we have the Lord we will not have wants? What does this say about our human nature? What does this say about the depth of our relationship with God? How do you sort out wants and needs and keep Jesus central in your decisions and actions?
* In what ways do you need God to make you lie down in green pastures? Where do you need rest? Where do you need healing? Where do you need for God to provide respite? Are you willing to let God make you be in His perfect will and direction? What is holding you back? How can your friends and family help you? Read Matthew 11:28-30.
* God prepares a table before you in the presence of your enemies. What are the enemies that tempt and surround you and keep you from God’s perfect peace and will? Talk about these with each other. Listen to the need and bring them before God in prayer.
* Why do you think God wants to sit at this table with you right in the presence of your enemies? Who is God to you? Who is God to your enemies? What do you think your enemies (Satan’s temptations) see on this table with God? Why would they be afraid? Why should you be confident?
* Read Joshua 1:1-9. What stands out to you in this passage? What does God want Joshua to know to receive all God wants for him and his people What must they be careful to do? How are they able to live without fear? How can you apply this in your life?
* Discuss as a family or group how you might encourage each other to sit at the table with Jesus and be courageous in the face of your enemies.
