By Pastor Frank Garcia
Mark 1:14-15 After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee and told the good news that comes from God. 15 He said, “The time has come! God’s kingdom will soon be here. Turn back to God and believe the good news!”
Matthew 4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Luke 4:43 But Jesus said, “People in other towns must hear the good news about God’s kingdom. That’s why I was sent.”
John 16:33 niv “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
1 Peter 5:9-10 niv Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
Family/Group Study Notes for January 17, 2021
Series: Beyond; Title: Beyond Bad News
What is the worst bad news you have received? What happened? How did it turn out?
In what ways are you hit with bad news every single day? What does this do to your emotions? Thoughts? Feelings? Belief?
Read Matthew 4:23-25. Where do you see good news during bad news in this passage? What does this passage say about Jesus? What about this passage gives you encouragement in bad news today? How do you see Jesus bringing healing today?
Not all people in Jesus’ time received healing and not everyone was relieved from the bad news of their circumstances. What does the above passage tell us about what heaven will be like? Why does our belief in the good news of Jesus matter?
Read John 16:29-33. What does Jesus want us to know in this passage? What is the warning? What is the hope? Why do people struggle to believe in Jesus and abandon Jesus for other kinds of hope? When have you done this?
Read 1 Peter 5:6-11. What has Peter learned about following Jesus? How does this passage give you hope? What does Peter say we must do? How does this passage help us be patient and content in times of bad news?
Gather in prayer for each other and for the bad news in the world. Pray for an area of life that is hard for you right now.
