Family/Group Study Notes for January 10, 2021
Series: Beyond; Title: Beyond Disunity
Discuss with each other as to reasons why we struggle with such disunity in our families, communities, and country. How would you describe the difference between disunity and disagreement?
Read John chapter 17. In this prayer from Jesus, what are some of the key things on His heart? How do you understand unity or oneness in this passage? What is Jesus’ desire? Why? How can we be unified and be created differently?
Read John 13:34-35. What does Jesus want us to know in this passage? What does this passage say about Jesus? What does it say about you? Could you also say that if we do not have love for one another that we are not a follower of Jesus? Why? Why not?
Read the following passages: Genesis 1:27, Ephesians 2:14, Galatians 3:28, Matthew 28:18-20, Revelation 7:9. What do these passages say about how God views unity?
Read Luke 9:23 and 1 Corinthians 1:18-19. What is Jesus asking us to do? Why is that important? How does Paul describe the power of the cross in his life? How will following Jesus’ instructions help us move beyond disunity? How does it help us think, act, and live above the disunified culture? How could you be an influence for change to those around you?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other and for unity in our families, communities, nation, and world.
