God created you to live Beyond Yourself!
Ephesians 2:19-22 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Beyond yourself for safety, strength and completeness.
Hebrews 10:24-25, Romans 12:4-6
Beyond yourself in diversity, beauty and Christ likeness.
Acts 17:26, Colossians 3:10-11, Philippians 2:3-5
Family/Group Study Notes for January 24, 2021
Series: Beyond; Title: Beyond Yourself
Why is it difficult to move beyond yourself? How does this affect the way we are offended; the decisions we make; the ideologies we hold; the people we hang with; the understandings we have; the priorities we make; the generosity we share?
Read Ephesians 2:19-22. How does this passage define the Christian Community? Jesus brought us together into a dwelling place for God. Why does He emphasize that the community, not the individual, is the dwelling place of God? Why is being built together important? Why do you think being joined together brings the Christian Community into a holy temple? How does all of this move us beyond ourselves?
How does being in Christian Community keep us safe from Satan, give us strength to overcome and make us more complete?
Read Hebrews 10:24-25. What is the encouragement in this passage? Why? What does the “day drawing near” mean?
Read Romans 12:4-6. What does this passage say about how God designed the Christian Community? Why did He do it this way?
Read Hebrews 13:16, 1 Thessalonians 5:14, Galatians 6:2, Romans 12:13 & 15. How do each of these passages show the value of Christian Community? What impact would they have in your life and for others?
Read Colossians 3:10-11. Jesus’ church is very diverse with every race, creed, nationality and socio-economic status. How does moving beyond ourselves to fully engage across these dividing lines make our lives more beautiful and the church more glorious and complete?
Gather and pray with each other.
