Family/Group Study Notes for August 15, 2021
Series: Contentment, Title: The How of Contentment
What are ways in your life that you have chased after contentment? Share with each other. What has worked? What has not?
Review some Biblical principles on contentment from the past two messages. What did Solomon mean by the insanity of “chasing the wind” when it comes to contentment? Why does making contentment in our own image always fall short? (You can review these messages and study notes on the ctkcharlotte.org website.)
Read 1 Timothy 6:6-21. What does Paul want Timothy to know and to teach? Name the key takeaways. What do you think the problem of the day was? How is it similar to today?
How can the pursuit of a Godly life with contentment make for a life of great gain? What do we risk losing if our pursuit is about more and more?
Think about your life. How do you describe yourself? Now remove all labels, material things, career – describe yourself only in God’s hands. How is contentment different in these two descriptions?
How does generosity curb discontentment? Why? Why is it at the heart of Godliness? How can it remove selfishness and pride? What change do you want to make in your own life? What is keeping you from it?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for Godly contentment in each other.
