Series: Facetime Encounters
Title: Jesus encounters the disciples & Thomas
Main Point: Doubts withheld are damaging. Doubts spoken lead to discovery.
Can Christians have doubts? Why or why not? Do you see doubts as a sign of weakness? Why or why not? Why is it uncomfortable to share our doubts or hard questions?
What do you think of this quote, would you agree or disagree and why?: “The opposite of faith isn’t doubt, it’s when I got it all figured out.” -Andy Mineo
Read John 20:19-23.
What does the disciples fear tell us about their faith?
What’s the first thing Jesus tells them? Why would he tell them that twice?
What was the reason for this facetime encounter?
Read John 20:24-29
Why do you think Thomas doubted? Did Thomas ever tell Jesus about his doubts? Think about what that means for you, God already knows your doubts and thoughts, so you don’t need to hide them.
How does Jesus respond to Thomas’ doubts, why does he do that?
How did Thomas’ doubts lead to a greater faith? How can you exploring your doubts with God increase your faith?
Applications:
Write down the doubts you have. Doubts in God, doubts towards others, or even doubts of yourself. Bring them to God this week and search for the answer from His word. Share with another Christian as well.
How will you create spaces where people can share their doubts and seek God amidst them? How will you love others when they’re in their doubts?
