Luke 24:13-35
Jesus is NOT a past tense God.
Humanity does not have power over God.
Hope is not a lost dream.
Jesus is more than the red letters.
Doubt will blind recognition.
Revelation begins with the word “Stay”.
When you walk with Jesus, a new burn of excitement is in your soul.
Family/Group Study Notes for April 25, 2021
Series: FaceTime with Cleopas & Friend
When is the last time you took a long walk pondering Jesus and His work in your life or the world? What were you seeking to understand? What questions were you asking Jesus in your mind? How did Jesus show up in the conversation? What revelation did He give you as you pondered life’s journey or struggle with Him? If you have never taken time to just talk to Jesus in your mind and heart, why not? What prevents it? Share with each other these thoughts.
Read the story in Luke 24:13-35. What are some things that stand out for you? What is unusual? What is surprising? Why? How would you be feeling if you were in this situation?
On this Sunday morning of the resurrection, why do you think they were walking 7 miles to the town of Emmaus? Had they given up? Were they going home? Were they taking a vacation? Were they going to talk to people they knew? These two were not part of the 12 disciples. Read Luke 10:1-23 for additional thoughts.
How is doubt about Jesus’ presence in your everyday life keeping you from seeing Him move and experiencing His closeness? What can you do to change this? What did the two in the story do?
Share a time in your life when your walk with Jesus really “burned” within you? What made that time special? How could you recover that experience more often? What made this happen for Cleopas and his friend?
Cleopas and his friend were sad at what they had hoped Jesus would be. This put Jesus as a “has been” or a “non-relevant” in their current and future lives. We know now that Jesus is resurrected and is present now and will be until the end of the age. How do you live in the joy of this fact? How do you live as though He is someone of the past?
What do you want Jesus to remove from your life and replace with a hope and joy from His?
Gather with your family and friends and pray for each other to experience Jesus more powerfully.
