Series: The Faithfulness of God
Title: God’s Faithfulness Even When We Are Not Faithful
Attributes of God’s Faithfulness:
-
Completeness
Psalm 89:8 O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O Lord, with your faithfulness all around you? -
Timelessness
Psalm 119:90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations. -
Foundational
Isaiah 25:1 O Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you; I will praise your name, for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. -
Immovable
Psalm 62:6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. -
God is faithful even when we are not.
2 Timothy 2:11-13 The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him;12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself. -
Christ died to free us from sin, not enable us to sin.
Romans 6:1-23 -
God’s faithfulness leads us to holiness.
Lamentations 3:22-24 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Title: God’s Faithfulness Even When We Are Not Faithful
- Share with each other how you can see God’s faithfulness through your life or in the world? Were there times where you doubted God’s faithfulness? What was the circumstance? How did God assure you of His goodness?
-
Read 2 Timothy 2:11-13. What stands out for you in this passage? What is important for you to know about yourself? What is important for you to know about God? What does it mean that God cannot deny His faithfulness? How do we deny our faithfulness?
- What does this phrase mean to you? “God is faithful even when we are not”. How does this apply to the believer? How does this apply to the non-believer? (Refer back to 2 Timothy 2:11-13).
- Read Romans Chapter 6. What does this passage say to the believer about sin? How does God’s faithfulness move our lack of faithfulness to repentance and a new life in Christ? What does Baptism mean? In vs.22, where does holiness lead? How is God faithful to work in our lives to bring us to holiness? What does Paul want us to understand about our new identity as those saved by the faithfulness of God in Christ Jesus?
- What kind of decisions could you make in your daily life to move you more into the likeness of Christ? What could you start doing? What could you stop doing?
- Gather as a group and/or family and pray for each other in your move toward holiness and reliance on God’s faithfulness.
