Lenten Devotional

A Journey through Romans

During the time of Lent, we encourage you to make time to be in scripture in addition to prayer. This year, we recommend reading through Romans with us. We encourage keeping a journal through this journey and using the SOAP method. The SOAP Method is a devotional tool that helps us deeply digest scripture.

S – Scripture: Open your Bible to the reading found under today’s date. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you; don’t rush. Look for ONE verse that particularly stands out. Write it in your journal.

O – Observation: What do you think God is saying in this Scripture? In your own words, record the context of the passage.

A – Application: Personalize it by asking yourself how this applies to your life right now. Write how God is showing you that this Scripture can apply to you today. How will you be different today because of what you have just read?

P – Prayer: Don’t worry about getting the words right; just get your heart right! Be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out.

Reading Plan through Romans

As we enter the season of Lent, we invite you to slow down, open the Scriptures, and let God speak to your heart each day. Using the simple S‑O‑A‑P rhythm—Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer—you’ll journey through the book of Romans one passage at a time. For those who’d like to add a physical and reflective practice, consider walking a mile a day as you meditate on the verse God highlights for you. May these forty days draw us closer to Christ and shape us more fully into His likeness.
