Message Notes for November 7, 2021
Series: Life Complete; Title: Truth
We are all subject to situational truth whose basis is only found in the next conversation or ideology. It is through our participation in the life of the body that we learn unshakable truth and are guided and built up into that truth and life through teachers and mentors. No one just absorbs knowledge, and no knowledge is stagnant. To mature takes ongoing teachers, challenges, and discovery with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Living in the Body of Christ makes our lives complete.
Ephesians 1:22-23 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
Two Values of the Church:
Opens our eyes to see God.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Truth emerges from the mire of opinion.
1 Timothy 3:15 If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Psalm 119:160 The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever.
John 8:31-32, John 14:6, 2 Timothy 3:14-17, Ephesians 4: 11-15
Family/Group Study Notes for November 7, 2021
Series: Life Complete; Title: Truth
What process do you go through to determine what is true or untrue? How often is your truth based on opinion vs. facts? How well do you discern elements of truth in different perspectives? How do these truths form your values and lifestyle?
Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17. What does Paul want Timothy to know? How important does Paul emphasize this truth for living in the world? Has your value system been influenced by your knowledge of Scripture? How so? If not, what could be some next steps to gain this wisdom?
Read Matthew 24:35, Read Psalm 119:160, John 8:31-32. What do each of these passages say to you? How do they relate to what Paul was saying to Timothy? How is this truth different from the world’s truth? Why is it important to have this truth?
Read Ephesians 4:11-15. What does Paul want you to know in this passage? What is the value of the Church in maturing truth in a person? How does that maturing happen? How do you see people in the world being tossed about by opinions? How would life be easier if there were a clear right and wrong? How does God’s Word bring freedom?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other, your church, and your faithfulness to God’s Word.
