Seeing the True Treasure

Message Notes for February 23, 2020
Series: 20/20 Mission Clarity
Title: Seeing the true treasure
Mission Clarity: Seeing clearly how your life is lived in this world for God’s purposes.
John 1:50b-51 You will see greater things than these. And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
How does giving open heaven’s doors?
Matthew 6:19-21 esv. “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Jesus gives spiritual clarity on how we manage earthly resources through:
- A warning Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Luke 12:16-21. Mark 8:36.
- A priority Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Acts 2:42-47.
- A purpose Matthew 25:14-24.

Title: Seeing the true treasure
- What comes to mind for you when you think of saving for heaven?
- Read Matthew 6:19-21. What is Jesus asking us to do or not do in this passage? Why? What is the promise? Why does Jesus give such a warning about our earthly savings?
- We are saved through our belief in what Jesus did for us on the cross. How does the above passage rest in the grace of a loving Father wanting the best for His children? How does a focus on treasures in heaven increase and deepen our relationship with God?
- What early seeds planted make for a harvest of treasures in heaven? Read Acts 2:42-47. How were these people storing up treasures in heaven? What does this passage say about the priority and purpose of God’s people on earth?
- Where have you seen people forfeiting long-term gain for short term pleasures? How does this relate to Matthew 6:19-21?
- Read Luke 12:16-21. What is Jesus communicating in this story? What does he want us to know and understand?
- How would a greater investment in God’s Kingdom make your heart more passionate?
