Title: Mount Sinai – A View of God’s Wisdom and Direction
- Share with each other one of your mountaintop moments with God. How were you inspired? How did you feel? What did God tell you? What was revealed? How did you see God’s glory in it all?
- Take a few minutes and review through the Mount Sinai story in the Bible around the Exodus. Exodus Chapters 19-31.
- What instructions did God give Moses before the people could approach Mount Sinai? Why do you think these preparations were necessary? How could better preparation for worship, prayer and hearing from God help you have a more enriched time with God?
- What does the physical manifestation of God on the mountain (thunder, lightning, thick cloud, trumpet blast) reveal about His character?
- In Exodus 20, why do you think God chose this moment and location to give the Ten Commandments?
- What is the significance of the first commandment in shaping our identity? How do the commandments reflect both vertical (human-God) and horizontal (human-human) relationships?
- In what ways does Mount Sinai prefigure the New Covenant in Christian theology – Hebrews 12:18–24 and 2 Corinthians 3:15-18?
- In Exodus 32, what causes the people to begin worshipping something else? How is this similar to today? Why do we worship other things but God?
- In what ways do you need God to bring rescue, identity, or re-shaping of character into your life or the life of your family? How could you be an instrument for this God move?
- Gather with each other and pray for the needs of each and for each to receive Jesus as the source of salvation and change.
