Family/Group Study Notes for May 2, 2021
Series: Sculpting; Title: Trusting the Sovereignty of God
How do you understand the sovereignty of God? How do you see this impacting your life? Discuss this definition of God’s sovereignty. “God’s right and power to do all that He decides to do.”
Read the following passages: Job 42:2, Revelation 21:6, Colossians 1:16, Romans 11:33, Romans 8:28. What does each say about God’s sovereignty?
Some will say that everything that happens to them is controlled by God. How would you answer that considering God’s sovereignty to give free will and his goodness to work for our welfare in our circumstances? Listen also to the May 2nd message.
Read Jeremiah 29: 4-14. What promises of God stand out for you in this passage? What is God asking us to do? How were God’s plans for their future and hope related beyond their present circumstances? What about us?
In the above passage, what is the purpose of God’s people? What does this passage say about our purpose despite our circumstances? What would it look like today if we lived this passage?
This passage is speaking to a “nation” of followers – Israel. Today it would be the Church. How does this make you look at the passage differently? How does this passage make you look at yourself as part of a larger body? Are you living this promise and command or sitting on the sideline?
What is your biggest takeaway from this study? What will you do now?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other.
