Message Notes for September 1, 2019
Title: Jesus in the workplace
Personal notes and ideas of how you can live for Christ in your workplace.
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Matthew 20:26-28 Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
1 Corinthians 3:8-9 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.

Title: Jesus in the workplace
- Share with each other what it is like for you to be a Christian in your workplace or places you serve in the community. How has your Christian faith challenged the culture in which you work? How has it been challenging for you?
- Read Matthew 20:26-28. What does this passage mean to you? What does Jesus want you to know? How is serving a sign of greatness? What does that kind of serving look like for you on a daily basis?
- Read Colossians 3: 23-24. What would change in your daily work and activities if you did everything to be pleasing to Jesus? How does working with excellence to please Jesus reflect on Christianity in the workplace?
- Read Matthew 5:16. How would your excellence in work cause others to give glory to God? How is it differentiated from just good work and a desire to move up in the company?
- Read 1 Corinthians 3: 8-9. What does Paul mean in this passage? How is the unique gift and talent you bring to the workplace as valuable as any other gift? Why doesn’t the work world value all gifts the same? Why does God value and reward all gifts the same when used for His glory?
- What next steps can you take to represent Jesus in your workplace or community?
- What next steps can you take to grow in how Jesus lives through you each day?
- Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other.
