Title: How to Know God’s Will From Ours

Message Verses: Ephesians 5:10, Romans 12:2, Acts 9:10-18, Proverbs 3:5-6

How do you discern the right decision from the wrong decision?

“Make your choice by His voice.”

Ephesians 5:10 “Try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.”

Why is it hard to discern God’s will?

“We cannot discern the ways of God if we have not submitted to the one who is the way to God.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do lot lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Three steps in discerning:

1. Who am I trusting in?

2. What am I leaning on?

3. Have I acknowledged God’s will?

Discussion Questions:

* What would our faith journeys be like if it did not regularly involve discerning the will of God? Why do we tend to skip over the discernment process and make our own decisions?

* What has the discernment process looked like for you? How have you discerned God’s will?

* Read and reflect on Ephesians 5:10. How do we differentiate between our own desires and God’s will, especially when faced with a difficult choice?

* What are the three steps in discerning, from Proverbs 3:5-6?

* Read Acts 9:10-19. What was the difficult choice Ananias had to discern and how did he go from arguing, to discerning, to acting on his discernment?

* What is one practical step you will take in your spiritual journey to grow in discerning God’s will when making decisions?

If you are unsure if you know God or His will, reflect on who Jesus is to you, if you believe he perfectly discerned and obeyed the will of God for the redemption of humanity, including you. Reflect if Jesus is the Lord of your life. You may want to proclaim by faith Jesus as your Lord, turn from sin, ask him to save you and to come into your life and make you new. He promises that all who believe in Him become children of God!
