Title: Jesus Is Savior
Key verses:
Philippians 2:5-8 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Matthew 1:20-21 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
The nature of Jesus:
He humbled himself.
He died to take away sin.
Jesus saves us:
From death
From ourselves
To be His children
To have a purpose

Title: Jesus is Savior
What does the word savior mean to you? How have you seen this image used in our society? What do you think it means in relation to Jesus?
Read Matthew 1: 18-25. What is the description of Jesus in this passage? What does it mean to be saved from sin? What is sin? The Bible says that the wages of sin is death. How do you think the world views sin? Why is sin such a problem that God would send His son to save us from it?
What is the difference between being forgiven of sin and taking away sin? Read Psalm 103:10-18. What does this passage mean to you? What does the writer want us to know about sin, about our lives, about God?
Read Philippians 2:5-11. What would it mean to have this mind of Christ in your life? How would you relate this passage to the Christmas story? In what ways did Jesus humble himself? What would humbling ourselves as Christ followers look like in your life? Give examples of how your life would be different.
How can you bring more of Jesus into your Christmas celebrations?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other.
