Series: So Now What?
Title: No Looking Back
This story of Peter and Jesus reminds us that Jesus picks up with our lives where we are and calls us forward into an exciting new life and purpose with Him.
John 21:15-19 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”

Title: No Looking Back
-
What occurrences have happened in your life that have kept you looking
back in regret, fear, or disappointment? Are these resolved? What do you
need to meet with Jesus about? He is ready to listen! What do you need to
meet with someone else about?
-
Read Proverbs 28:13, 1 john 1:9, Isaiah 43:25-26, Acts 3:19, Isaiah 1:18, 2
Corinthians 5:17, Daniel 9:9. What was God saying to you through these
passages? Why is this so important for God, for you? How does knowing
this help you be more fully engaged in what God wants to do now in your
life?
-
From the passages above, how does God’s way of dealing with our sin help
us more gracefully deal with the sin of others? What do you learn from
these passages? What did you learn from this week’s message?
-
Read John 21: 15-19. This passage relates back to MaThew 26:69-75. How
was Jesus approachable in dealing with Peter and this sin on his heart? How
does Peter become aware that Jesus knows all about Peter and his rejection
of Jesus? What does Jesus do about it that sets Peter free to look forward
and not backward? When have you found yourself in a similar situation?
What did you do? What would you do now after learning how Jesus met
Peter?
-
Gather with those in your group or family and pray for each other. Pray for
honest confession and forgiveness. Pray for the ability to treat others as
Jesus has treated you.
