Title: Honor in Marriages
Romans 12:10, 17 ESV Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor…17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
Honor in marriage is the basis for love, trust and longevity.
Foundations for Marriage Honor:
Matthew 19:4-6 Jesus answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

- How does sharing your frustrations or weaknesses of your spouse in public or among friends bring dishonor to your marriage?
- Read John 15:1-5. What is Jesus saying in this passage? What does He want you to do? What is the outcome of following or not following His command? How would you apply this passage to your marriage? What can Jesus, at the center of your marriage, bring? What does the absence of Jesus in your marriage cause in the marriage?
- Read Matthew 19:4-6. What are the key aspects of a successful marriage in this passage? What do each mean practically? How do these bring honor to the marriage? What does not “leaving well” look like in a marriage? What does not “joining well” look like in a marriage? What do you believe God can do?
- Read Ephesians 5:21-23. How can spouses submit well to one another? How does mutual marriage submission honor Jesus? From this example, what does sacrifice in a marriage look like? What happens in a marriage when there is mutual sacrifice and honor? How does this relate to Jesus and the church (The Body of Christ)?
- What is a key learning you want to take from this study? How can you apply it in your marriage or encourage it among your married friends?
- Pray for the needs of each other, for marriages and honor among relationships.
