Title: Honoring God
Romans 12:9-17 ESV Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.

Family/Study Group Notes for the Week of October 22, 2023
Series: The Lost Art of Honor
Title: Honoring God
* Discuss with each other how you see honor and dishonor being lived out in our families, communities, and nation today? What makes someone want to honor someone else? What makes someone want to dishonor? What does honor look like? What does dishonor look like?
* Read Romans 12:9-17. In this passage Paul speaks of the habits of the Christian life. What stands out to you the most? How would these habits be difficult to live out in society today? Why? Which habits would be easy to live out? Why? How would living this way make you look different from others in your family, workplace, or community?
* Paul speaks of outdoing one another in showing honor. What would that look like practically for you? How can you show honor to someone you don’t agree with? What is the Godly value of this type of character and behavior?
* What would dishonoring God look like? Read Mark 6:1-5. What is going on in this passage? What caused Jesus to be dishonored? What was the result of this dishonoring of Jesus? What happens to us if we live in a dishonoring state with God?
* Read Romans 1:21-25. What is the writer addressing in this passage? What caused this dishonoring of God? How does this kind of dishonoring lead us further and further away from God? What is the risk here?
* From the Sunday message, what are some ways you can grow in honoring God? (See the message notes.)
* Gather with your family/group and pray for each other. Pray for your growth in honoring God and others because of the honor Jesus gave to us by dying on a cross for our sins.
