Series: Trailblaze – navigating life with God at the center

Title: A Loving Church

• What value sets do you think the church should more significantly model for the world? Why? Read Matthew 5:14. What do you think Jesus means by this passage?  How could the church shine more brightly?  How does it shine brightly already?

• Read 1 Timothy 1:1-2.  These were groups who were not highly respected.  What is Paul saying in this passage that encourages their value in the Lord?  What would change if we engaged people from all walks of life as God’s own and part of our family, instead of objects of our desire and self-interests?

• Read 1 Timothy 5: 3-16.  What are the key things Paul wants us to understand about caring for the needs of others?  What is his encouragement to families?  What is his encouragement to those who play on the generosity of others?

• Read 1 Timothy 5: 17-25.  Why is it important to know the whole truth before making accusations?  How does this bring such disunity in the church and in the world?  How can we use accusations for personal interest or gain?  What are examples of this in our world? Why does Paul encourage leadership to be healthy and above reproach?  What happens to organizations when that is not the case? 

• How can you lift and encourage the leaders over you?

• How do these passages affect you personally?  What do you want to change?

• Gather into smaller groups and pray for each other and how Jesus is calling you to live as light in the world.
