Title: Walking with a life-transforming Jesus
- Read 1 Timothy 6:1-2. What is Paul wanting us to understand from this passage? Why is this dissimilar to slavery in America? How were Christians re-defining the value of all human beings? How was Christian life to look different from secular life practices? Continue your research so you can learn the full level of transformation Jesus and the teaching of the Bible were bringing to God’s ideal family that was formed from every nation and tribe. The following link will help address this passage.
- Read 1 Timothy 6:3-5. Why is Paul so forceful in his opposing words? What is at stake? What does self-interest, egos, personal gain, division, and conflict cause in the Church? Where does this bad character come from? Read Galatians 5:22-23. What happens to your character when you are filled with the Holy Spirit of God?
- Read 1 Timothy 6:6-19. Why do Americans have such a love of money? What does this love of money cause? Paul says that this love keeps us from contentment. How do you see this played out? How does it limit Christians from modeling Jesus and living for others?
- In society we can often look at having things, better jobs, more money etc. as great gain. Paul reminds Timothy and the church that Godliness with contentment is great gain. Why does he say that? How do you think that was true for his life?
- Read 1 Timothy 6: 11-21. What are the charges that Paul gives to Timothy? Take time to walk through each of these. What would they mean for your life? How would you live differently if you sought them each day?
- Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other.
