Title: Exploring Christian Leadership Part 2
1 Corinthians 4:3-8 “But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. For I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God. I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you!”
1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
1 Peter 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
Notes:
1) You Can’t Judge Yourself!
2) Judgement must be leavened with Love
3) Our Judge has been Judged
· 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Title: Exploring Christian Leadership Part 2
* Read 1 Corinthians 4:3-8. What does this text teach us about judging others? Why does Paul consider it a small thing to be judged by human courts or even by himself? In Verse 4, who is the ultimate judge that Paul refers to?
* How much of our actions are influenced by our self-perception?
* The Corinthians who judged Paul were, in effect, playing God and assuming divine privileges. Have you ever made this mistake?
* Read Verse 6. What does it mean to “not go beyond what is written” and how does this relate to being “puffed up”? What does the phrase “puffed up” mean to you? How can that type of behavior cause division in the church? How can humility help?
* What point is Paul making when he asks, “What do you have that you did not receive?” Paul reminds the Corinthians that everything they have is a gift from God.
* Read 1 Samuel 16:7. Why does God care more about what is in our hearts than how we look on the outside?
* Read 1 Peter 4:17. Why does God want His family (the church) to live in a way that shows they follow Him? What do you think it means for God to start His judgment with His own people?
* Read 2 Corinthians 5:21. How did Jesus make it possible for us to be right with God, even though He never did anything wrong? Why do you think Jesus was willing to take on our sins so that we could be close to God?
* What are the key points you want to remember from this lesson?
* Gather in prayer with and for each other.
