Family/Group Study Notes for Week of September 6, 2020
Series: Defined Title: Connected – A Study of Joshua
How have relationships been important in your life? How would you say they have made your life better, decisions better, journey easier?
In our study of Joshua, we see how so many people hit a dead end in their lives because they disconnected from those who were guiding them and from God Himself. (Numbers 14) When have you not wanted to follow the wisdom of a trusted friend or leader? How did it turn out? How connected have you been to God in making decisions and determining next steps? Discuss how it helped or why you disconnected.
Read Joshua 1:8. What does this passage mean to you? Why would this connectedness to God be important for Joshua and the people as they went into the promised land? What different ways is God saying that connectedness happens with Him? Describe what that would look like for you as you read the Bible.
There are always turning points in our lives where our patterns of old are holding us back from moving forward. What have been those for you? What patterns do you still need to let go of? How can you give these to God?
Read Joshua 24:14-18. This passage describes the turning point the people would need to make. It was decision time. All of those moving forward with Joshua into the promised land had been influenced by their parents and community in the worship and following of other gods and lifestyles that were not pleasing to God. These old patterns were causing the people to be defeated and keeping them from the land (God’s best) that He had for them. Joshua gave them a choice, but he would lead the way. What changes is God calling you to make for His glory? Where do you need encouragement from a leader to help you see the difference? What will be your next steps?
Gather in smaller groups and pray for each other.
