Series: “Life with Friends” Title: Stormy Days
Key passage:
Matthew 8:23-27 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

Family/Group Study Notes for June 20, 2021
Series: “Life with Friends” Title: Stormy Days
When have you had some stormy or difficult times in your life? Where were your friends during this time? How did they help? Where were they not helpful? Where was Jesus in this situation?
Read Luke 8:22-25, Mark 4:35-41, Matthew 8:23-27. Compare and contrast these passages. What is unique to each that helps you understand the story? What do they discover about Jesus? What do they discover about themselves? Who do they think Jesus is before He calms the storm? Who do they think Jesus is after He calms the storm? Where do you find yourself in this passage?
Read Psalm 121. What does this passage say about God? How would you relate to this passage in your daily life? How is the Lord truly a helper for you? King David in the Old Testament could not see God with his eyes, yet he wrote this passage about God. Even though David had many human helpers and warriors, how was God the greatest helper?
What gets in the way of you asking God for help?
Read James 4:6-7, Proverbs 29:23, Matthew 7:24-27. What are these passages saying? How do you find yourself in prideful or foolish ways with God? What do you need to repent of? What steps could you take to become more trusting of God?
Gather with those around you and pray for each other and your following of Jesus.
